Czech Plush Monkey's Adventures!
Monkey sees and does stuff.
Return to Santa Barbara intro page.

A two part adventure!
Two mini-adventures that make one big adventure.
Ok, not so much a big adventure as a couple of small adventures that add up to something.

PART 1: Opice sees shells at the sea side by the off shore sea rig.
PART 2: The Feature from a Black Lagoon.

Watch Monkey pull a rabbit out of his hat.

PART 1
(In case you need to know which part this is.)

Opice's excited by his discoveries: pebbles, rocks, seaweed (kelp), driftwood, logs, and evidence of seagulls having made a rest stop, or "bank deposit."

Lukáš asks if Monkey's found anything else.

"Nope."

"What's in your hat?"

"Nothin'."

Oil Derrick in the ocean.

Sometimes Monkey wants people to pay attention to him. (Those times are all times.) And he likes it if he can make us ask the obvious because if it's not obvious he has problems making up an answer.

"Sea shells! I found sea shells." he boasts.

"How?" Luke asks. "I haven't found any, and I've walked twice as much of the beach as you." Which was totally true. Mostly Monkey likes to be carried rather than walk.

But Opice also knows the secret to finding things, "Don't look for them."

Ever go crazy searching for something that you can't remember where you put it and later you find it easily when you don't need it any more? Opice believes people make the mistake of trying too hard. He seldom tries hard at all.

The hat trick never works.

Monkey's secret.is he knows how not to look. That's especially true in a place like the beach. He doesn't look for the shell, he watches for the change in the debris pattern.

It's sorta Zen cuz he can't think about it to do it--which is how he does most things in life. Anyway, by not paying too much attention (another of his skills) he awaits the little tickle that goes off in his fuzzy head telling him that the pattern just changed and that this is where he should look more closely to see what's different.

Opice tries explaining this to his nephew, "It's like looking for a grasshopper in the grass. You can't push the river," he sums-up.

Lukášy rolls his eyes and goes, "Yeah, whatever." He continues down the beach looking for shells without success.

If you move your mouse over the foto you'll see the shells actual size (assuming your screen is Monkey's screen in size and configuration). One of the shells is iridescent inside--Monkey's favorite color!
PART 2: From Sea
to Black Lagoon.

Inland from the Pacific Ocean, part way up a hill, beside a small trail, in a dank, dense stand of bamboo, palms, bushes and trees, there bubbles up a dark, warm pool of sulfurous water.

It's a volcanic hot spring! Let's get in.

"In that?" Opice frets.
Yes.
"It smells like rotten eggs."
Of course.
"Au natural?!"
You usually are.
"
Yeah, but don't tell anybody."

A natural hot spring!
Interactive fotos of Monkey dipping a toe.

After his uncharacteristic moment of shyness, Monkey takes the "plunge."

If you cursor over the foto left you'll see him happily dip a toe in to test the temperature. Careful observation shows his left foot actually got wet. That's not the best thing for a plush monkey, because it means his wrangler will have to clean him after we finish relaxing in Mother Nature's hidden spa. (But this adventure is worth it.)
