A Year in the Life of a Czech Plush Monkey.

Week 34:  5 - 11 September 2004

Sunday, 5th

1st, 2nd, & 3rd in Singles Synchronized Swimming.

Our proud Monkey poses for the press.

"Press" Opice to hear
the music in his head.

Monkey medalist.

He gives in to temptation yet again.

Monday, 6th
Not your Olympic Medals!?!?

Opice, you've eaten your bronze and silver chocolate medals!
This is a horrible terrible situation.

No, you can't buy more.

No, judges decisions are final.

Well, yes, but that was in gymnastics.

Tuesday, 7th
Jello?

Yes. When Monkey was a young buck (How'z that possible?), he claims his mother gave him his first cookbook, Joys of Jello [3rd Edition].

Jello is his first joy after bananas, chocolate, peanut butter, jalapeños, salsa, etc.

Monkey thinks it'd be fun to have a potluck where everyone had to bring a Jello dish. Who but Opice would dare such a meal?

A sample of Monkey's poetry books

Wednesday, 8th
3 Great American Poets

Did you know Opice reads poetry?
He loves poetry.
This characteristic represents his intellectual streak--thread, actually. But it is a very fine thread.

Here he holds 3 of his favorite poetry books:
Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats
by T.S. Eliot
The Pocket Book of Ogden Nash
by Ogden Nash (surprise surprise)
Caught in the Quiet
by Rod McKuen.

There is one more writer Monkey loves reading: Monkey. If you'd like to read some of his doggerel, go ahead and do so.

Thursday, 9th
California Admissions Day

Today President Millard Filmore signed the bill making California part of the United States in 1850. Opice likes that a lot. It has a wonderful symmetry. Filmore was the 13th Prez. California is the 31st state. 13 : 31  mirrored numbers!

Monkey's home fon # is a palindrome, too. If only he could remember the first digit, he'd never forget it.

Yard sale goodies

Friday, 10th
Yard sale!

Monkey woke up, looked outside, and saw his neighbors having a yard sale. He wished they'd have warned him. He hoped they hadn't sold anything he wanted. He would definitely be doing some serious shopping... after breakfast. Meanwhile, they should close shop until he's ready.

Libby has a suggestion

Saturday, 11th

"Hey, Monkey!" Libby calls for his attention. "Did you see these lovely red shoes? Come over here and try them on. I think they're your size."

Checking himself out in the mirror

At first he's not so sure, until Libby says, "And they make you look so much taller!"

SOLD! Monkey finds the shoes to be stunning.

"And they bring out the red in my eyes," he assures himself.

A satisfied shopper.
